If you ask Jarrod who his model Democratic Party Leader has been, he would without blinking tell you that person was Vice President Henry Wallace. Serving under President Franklin D. Roosevelt from 1941 to 1945, Wallace was a champion of the "common man" and a driving force behind many of the New Deal's most impactful policies.
Wallace's tenure as Secretary of Agriculture was marked by the implementation of innovative programs aimed at stabilizing farm prices, conserving soil, and supporting rural communities. His work in developing hybrid corn strains significantly transformed agriculture, resulting in increased yields and enhanced food security. As Vice President, Wallace continued his advocacy for social justice, economic equality, and international cooperation, which earned him the respect and admiration of many working-class Americans. Jarrod's roots in Western Nebraska are deeply connected to his family's experiences with programs such as the Works Progress Administration (WPA), which provided crucial employment opportunities during not only the Great Depression but also the Dust Bowl, which adversely affected his family's agricultural viability on their property.
Fast forward to today, and Jarrod Munger, the current Chair of the Morgan County Democrats, stands ready to carry forward Wallace's legacy. Jarrod's vision for the Colorado Democratic Party is deeply rooted in the principles that Wallace championed: building a stronger, more inclusive community through coordination and cooperation.
Jarrod's campaign for State Party Chair is centered on empowering working-class Coloradans. He believes that by fostering collaboration across the state, the party can create a more unified and effective organization. Just as Wallace worked tirelessly to support farmers and rural communities, Jarrod is committed to ensuring that every voice is heard and valued.
Under Jarrod's leadership, the party will focus on policies that promote economic opportunity, social justice, and environmental sustainability. He envisions a party that not only fights for the rights of workers but also actively engages with communities to address their unique needs and challenges.
Elected officials and party members alike are inspired by Jarrod's dedication and vision. His approach is not just about winning elections; it's about building a movement that reflects the values and aspirations of all Coloradans. With Jarrod Munger at the helm, the Colorado Democratic Party is poised to become a beacon of hope and progress for working-class families across the state.
His commitment to the Democratic Party is deeply personal, rooted in his own experiences of hardship and renewal.
In 2007 and 2012, Jarrod faced two of the most challenging periods in his professional career. He was laid off not once, but twice, from jobs that he had poured his heart and soul into. One of these jobs was outsourced, leaving him and many of his colleagues in a state of uncertainty. It was a time of great difficulty, but also a turning point that would shape his future.
During this tumultuous period, Jarrod discovered the Colorado Workforce Center and the retraining grants Workforce Innovation Act (WIA) in 2008 and Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) in 2012, lifelines passed by National Democrats to support displaced workers. These grants provided him with the opportunity to retrain and acquire new skills, opening doors to new career paths. The support he received through these programs was not just financial; it was a beacon of hope that reignited his belief in the power of community and government to make a positive difference. As a college drop-out with minimal skills required to thrive in the 21st Century Colorado, these were the hand up in life he needed
Jarrod's gratitude for the assistance he received fueled his dedication to the Democratic Party. He saw firsthand how policies and programs championed by the party could transform lives and provide a safety net for those in need. This experience inspired him to give back and ensure that others could benefit from the same support he had received.
Jarrod has a well-rounded experience in political engagement. He began his involvement with the Democratic Party in 2016 when he ran to be a Democratic National Committee Delegate, despite having limited connections within the Party at that time and understanding delegates were elected at the Congressional Convention and State Convention. His engagement deepened after attending the 2017 Reorganization Meeting for the Democratic Party of Denver, where he became involved with Colorado's House District 8. During his first term, he was elected to fill a vacancy in the County Party Secretary office, which expanded his responsibilities to the diverse and urban population of Denver County.
At the 2019 State Party Reorganization Meeting, he was recruited to run for Chair of the Stonewall Democrats of Colorado, where he lead his officer team in transforming the organization from a focus primarily on the Denver Metro area to a truly statewide initiative, including representation in the officer team from the Western Slope, Eastern Plains, and various communities along the Urban Corridor.
